Honestly, there is an element of truth to his claim ...

The difficulty a lot of executives are having with the Wii is that previous consoles were (primarily) used by 1 or 2 members of a household who fell into pretty conventional gamer demographics; the Wii in contrast is being used by most members of a household on some level and many of these people do not fall into conventional gamer demographics.

This means there are many people who play the Wii who do not consider videogames as being a particularly important hobby and may play games in the way that he suggested. At the same time there are also core gamers who use the Wii in (pretty much) the exact same fashion to how XBox 360 or PS3 owners use their system. There is also demographics of Wii gamers who are not that well understood who probably use it in a very different fashion to how any other console is used.
