Variety can think whatever they want, honestly I just stopped caring. Metacritic has always been a joke in my opinion. I have stated this for quite some time now. They can't even distinguish the difference between an A and an A+. This goes for games on all consoles. The only thing they are consistent in is being wrong. Dead give away for me was when 1UP said in an article "We rated Fable II an A and somehow Metacritic translated that into a 100". Do you need to think any further?
They should just fade away.
As I said plenty of times. You want mainly high profile gaming site review averages? Go to Gamerankings. When have you heard anyone bitch about them? They also get the number grading right. Metacritic supposedly rates their letter system from 0-100, meaning pretty much 8 points per letter grade (F-A+ I believe, 13 grades right? Somewhere around 7.69 per grade). Now why does B- to C+ range 12 points? Easy, to cover up for the A and A+ rating laziness. It is not between these 2 grades either, you will see plenty of them being seperated by more than they should be due to them idiotically assuming an A and an A+ = same exact score. *facepalm*
Do you want more than just those high profile game sites? Do you want them all and not just a pick and choose basis where a blog gets in but some other sites do not? Go to N4G. They leave nothing out.
There are 2 much better choices.
All my opinion, so relax if someone has some response of epic proportions.

not sure how much of that was directed at me.. but i in large agree.. the only time i look at metacritic scores is when someone here links to them for bitching purposes.. i've said it in a few previous threads, it'd be a better gaming world if they just cut out quantifying their opinions, and let people read and come to their own conclusion about what is important to them..
seriously.. a reviewer can complain about a b and c, and praise d e and f.. who are they to say which aspect is the most important, and how they should effect the overall numeric score.. that comes down to the individual.. people should read it and think either "well.. i'm not really getting the game for the purposes of a b and c.. so i think i'll still love it" or "d e and f aren't really that important to me, i'll give it a miss"
Like the variety review for super mario galaxy .. it is a complete joke.. but i could still read through it and think with my own head "ok.. their complaints aren't important to what i'm hoping to get out of this game".. thats why despite their clear inability to play and review games well, they are still among the better reviewers, because they allow the user to make judgement of how good a game is, not themselves
