I can't express how much I disagree with both these beliefs. I'd hate to spend my gaming time playing semi-realistic games with twitchy framerates and no real multiplayer but appearantly, that's the direction the gaming industry needs to go.

you can play with anyone even if they are not nearby.

even if you are alone at home there is always someone to play.

having both it's more optimal still.

I just don't think online is really multiplayer. To me, it feels like singleplayer with better AI (technically, AI is replaced with human intelligence). You're still playing on your own as opposed to the social aspect of physical multiplayer.
