With £1 = $1.9 and 17.5% VAT (correct for UK I believe), £300 was $485 which was admittedly quite higher than USA was paying. Currencies have gone all over the map for the past few years (especially the past year) so it's understandable that companies don't adjust prices all the time.
I guess the point is, us Europeans aren't being nearly as much ripped off as before.
