I have to disagree with you there. The PS2 was not a casual console. It was an everything console. The enormous variety of its game library catered to all gamers, it was cheap and accessible. Hardcore gamers enjoyed it as much as casuals did. It may not have had the casual appeal of the Wii, but it certainly had more than its opponents. However, the X360 is not this gen's PS2. In terms of sales, the Wii is. These would have been embarassing sales for the PS2, in fact. Half the price of its competitor and only winning by 10k sales? By this time in the gen, the PS2 was destroying its opponents, much like the Wii is now. Even if the X360 is the current best selling HD console, it's not a scratch on the PS2.

Agreed. Wii is closest to PS2 in terms of sales although I don't think it matches it library. 360 is better than Xbox but still actually pretty weak compared to the bar set by PS1 and PS2 - PS3 is very weak next to that benchmark.
IMHO the two HD consoles have been splitting the more hardcore gamers/former PC gamers switching to console while Wii hoovers up everyone else.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
