Best selling franchises of the 6th generation

Smash Bros averaged 7.08M

Halo averaged 7.45M

Pokemon averaged 7.88M

Numbers taken from offical GT site.

GT1: 10.85 million

GT2:   9.37 million

GT3: 14.89 million

GT4: 10.18 million ( and its still selling so by the time GT5 is released it will pass 11 million)

Total: 45.29 million!

So average is 11.32 million!

1) 6th generation! No GT 1 and GT 2 there.

2)As you see, I have used VGChartz data all the time. Other games may be undertracked too, to "fix" the data for one franchise flaws up everything

3) I count all games with "Gran Turismo" in their name, that were released on a 6th gen console. That is,

Gran Turismo 3 - A spec

Gran Turismo 4

Gran Turismo concept 2001 Tokyo

Gran Turismo 4 prologue

 

4 games. 27.29/4 = 6.8225, or rounded 6.82M

That's holy freaking impressive! (over twice of Mario's average, 3.11M).

 

For the 5th gen, I believe GT has the 2nd highest behind Pokemon.
