With Green technology, smart urban planning, public transit infrastructure and conservation, the U.S. could already have been off it's oil dependence. The problem isn't that it's not possible, it's that it's not preferable in a civilization of convenience, and not being fostered in a political system built around corruption.
Which reminds me, have the U.S. closed the loop yet that allows businessmen to get the same tax credit on extremely large SUV's that is supposed to be used for farmers to purchase tractors?
