Opinion: the 1990´s were far better when it comes to pure fun in gaming.

Large chunks of me want to say yes, but the rational voice at the back of my mind (I'll shut him up someday...) is telling me that I've got some rose-tinted glasses on. Still, I can confidently say that JRPGs were better back then, for what it's worth.
