"Schrodinger's cat"? What's that? As to the topic, the Wii can probably handle crowds decently well, albeit nowhere near the scale of a Dead Rising. If the NPCs don't have to actually do anything, the number probably goes up to the several hundred. If there's a need for them to have some sort of rudimentary intelligence, a la Dead Rising, then it appears that around a hundred is the current limit. Still, like in Kingdom Hearts II developers will probably have to take advantage of several tricks to create massive crowds of characters. You don't need all 1,000 characters to actually be onscreen at once; having some stay in the background, and spawning them in when their turn is up is one technique that would help a lot, even if it is "cheating."

It was a concept used to poke fun at quantum physics, until it turned out it actually worked on the quantum level, even if not on the level of a living creature.
But in this context, it means we don't know what something will be like until it's finished. When we see the release of Dead Rising Wii, we'll know exactly what it does, and whether to sigh with relief or break out the torches and pitchforks.
BTW, twesterm, what do you think of Atari picking up Ghostbusters? Or do you have a thread dealing with that?
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
