Alright, let me explain myself.

If you think that Colbert was somehow making fun of the democrats by overreaching on the republican talking points, then I think that you are wrong. You may be reading into something that is not there.

It's simple. Colbert would take a very rational point that makes fun of some Democratic action and starts to make jokes about it. He then continues to go so over the top with the statements that he ends up parodying hardline Republicans by the end of the segment. In the end, he's gotten both parties... Democrats through the initial action, and then Republicans through his Bill O'Reilly schtick.

He stopped doing that about six months ago and the level of humor in the show has dropped off significantly. Don't believe me? Just go back and watch one of his 2005 era shows and then watch something from the past two months. It's pretty blatant how the show has changed.

Stewart has always leaned left and I don't have a problem with that... Like I said, the balance doesn't have to be perfect. But when the show goes from a 60/40 or even 70/30 ratio to a 90/10 ratio, I stopped finding anything he said funny. I don't laugh at political commentators, especially ones who so feebly hide behind the mask of comedy.

And I've been watching the Daily Show since Craig Killborn hosted it.

I don't think we're going to agree on Colbert.  I just don't think that starting with actual republican talking points is the comedy of the show.  The joke comes when he stretches it out to ridiculous levels.  Yes he does hit the dems too, but not nearly as much as the republicans.

I personally thought the show was pretty weak in the begining, but he really began to hit his stride after a couple of months.  I still think it is as funny as ever.  Especially since he has started to try and make himself in a big name with all the shameless self-promotion.

As for The Daily Show, you have definitely been watching longer than me.  Now that I think about it more, I was watching some in high school, so that might stretch it out to 8-9 years I have been watching.  Like I said above, the show has gone more left in recent weeks, but I think it will swing back the other way with dems in power.

Was the show any good with Killborn?  His late show on CBS was terrible.  Far weaker than Leno, Letterman, and Conan.

By the way, I wholeheartedly agree with your point above about reaching the young male demographic.
