Point 1, there are WAY more 3rd party software titles on the Wii than there are on the PS3, PS3 is bare bones. I think the PS3 is a much better platform for developers to develop for if you were looking at the current platform market. Nintendo just owns japan, the situation is COMPLETELY different when you include Nintendo's software in the line up 3rd party devs are obviously going to go where the money is... now the problem I see from all these rickety numbers is that expensive games like Armored Core and Virtua Fighter are not performing well, this is a problem with the Japanese market that Nintendo have foreseen and captivated on very well which is why they and the Wii is performing so well in Japan at the moment. No longer are the gamers games really successful in Japan. You've got to look at the whole picture. Basically Japan lives on three formats of games now - the big popular well known RPG names, the Anime Spin Offs and the 'easy to pick up and play' games which Nintendo is the only one really providing on next gen level now. Look at the 1st party sales on PS3, that is incredibly dismal for the league of the games that are there. Not many suit the Japanese market. CURRENTLY the PS3 is performing better for 3rd parties, with higher numbers coming form less games - which has always been a major benefit of the Playstation brand, but when big franchise titles like VF5 and Armoured Core aren't copping over 100,000 sales then that is not a good sign. Nintendo really doesn't have any 'big' titles that suit the Japanese preference of games at the moment... and the ones that do, the Anime Spin Offs are at the top of the list, DBZ, Naruto and Bleach. Surprising? Not really. Dev's don't really look at these kind of attachments rates however, the simple and down to fact point is install base, and it is proven with so many games leaving the PS3 and hitting 360 or new games being announced for Wii. The problem is that with such terrible total numbers for the PS3 (1st and 3rd Party) no matter how good the game is it is quite unlikely that the amount that devs need to spend and the amount that devs need to sell for re-coup the cost is just not happening because of the expense of development, for devs to want to stay with PS3 they are going to want to sell more copies... VF5 is one such example, horrid sales of a fairly big game.
