It is worth pointing out that this is the error margin for the current week only. The error margin for the total sales is extremely small, since figures are adjusted as more and more information comes in. I believe when we analyzed Q1 reports from Sony, we discovered accuracy of within about 1% for total PS3 sales as of the end o that quarter.

This is the important thing.

The shorter the timeframe, the greater then error. Since weekly figures are tweaked when additional information comes out (NPD, financial reports, etc..) the error in the accumulated, worldwide sales are very small (compared to other sales figures anyway).

Note there is no guarantee *any* released piece of data (i.e. even from the makers themselves) is completely correct.

US/Japan should be within 1-2% of real (accepted) results - Europe could have a higher accumulated error (but no more than 5% I would say).
