So you expect PS2 owners who probably spent $150 to $200 buying the PS2 to jump on board with the PS3 at $300 to $500? Um ... yeah
The price range the vast majority of people buy gaming consoles at is $100 to $200 and the PS3 will not be in this price range until late 2009 or 2010 at the earliest; developers will be moderately patient but will soon be at the point where they will no longer be focusing much of their attention to the PS3. The end result is that Sony will have a system which needs 12 to 18 games at the level of Metal Gear Solid or Final Fantasy in a year in order to catch up to the Wii and will only have 4 to 6 of these games.
We certainly haven't seen "Check Mate" yet, but every move Nintendo puts Sony into "Check" and Sony is just surviving at this point in time.
