The game is well worth it even if you don't create any levels. Some of the MM levels in story mode will benefit from 2 or more players, they include "side missions", but you will enjoy the story levels that ship from the game.
I suspect that you will spend some time in the create aspect of the game, but it is not necessary if you are really against it.
4 player local coop is included and works well.
