The unemployment rate is 6.1%, high and climbing but not a significant portion of tax revenue. 3-5% is what is call structural and frictional unemployment. This type of unemployment isn't related to the cyclical economy. Housing credit, if you live in a home with $3000 per month in payments then you are not exactly the target of the housing credit. I live in a decent 2 bedroom apartment, I pay $800 per month. It's not much to me, but for a household of 4 making 45k/year (median household income), they have about 2800 after taxes. Take out 800 for the house, 350 for health care, 150-200 power, 200 for gas, 100 for phones (1 cell for each pf the two adults), 300-400 for car payments or maintenance, 150-200 for car insurance, etc. etc. etc. Florida does have one of the highest minimum wages, and it is linked to cost of living. Still not high enough. All minimum wage jobs in Florida are service jobs that aren't going anywhere. The good 'ol boys down here have been riding high on the backs of the poor for too long, choking power, rigging elections, and generally abusing power. Come on, even the shape of the state is disgusting. (BTW Wal-Mart pays about $2 over the minimum wage for 90% percent of it's work force in Florida, I've been trying to find the link but I can't. Sadly, Wal-Mart is one of the better employers in this state.) Go Blue is not full health coverage. It is limited Managed Health Care. Doesn't help if you get really sick. |
BS, WalMart does not. I make $7.40 an hour for a level 3 position. Minumim wage in the state is $6.79. That is not $2 over. They also removed the 90-day raise.
