Project H.A.M.M.E.R. has had an interesting development cycle, to say the least. Nintendo first unveiled the title way back at E3 2006, stating that it would be an original IP that the company would bring to Wii. Since then, there’s been murmurs that the game was canned. Then in May, NGamer said the title was still alive and was being worked on. Shigeru Miyamoto, however, recently responded when asked about the game. Here’s his take:

“[says he is not part of the development team and really cannot comment] (…) What I can confirm here is that only when Nintendo can become almost certain of the timing of the launch we are able to make the relevant launch announcement of the software.”

Miyamoto also commented on 3D gaming devices. Perhaps surprisingly, he would not be thrilled with such a device if “goggle-style” gear was needed to be worn by the player.

“Nintendo is always trying to construct the framework in which we can provide… we can be as creative as possible in order to create as new entertainment as possible. And that’s what Nintendo has been striving at and that’s what Nintendo will be challenging itself once again in order to make unique entertainment opportunity. But if I can just add my personal opinion: if the new environment requires the player to wear some goggle-style, I really don’t have a good impression of that.”

looks like we really could be seeing Project HAMMER at some point.  im sure if the game was cancelled he would of said. His reply reminds me of his reply about kid Icarus. seems he can announce projects he is working on like pikmin 3, but not projects where he has no inviolvement. Nintendo is really impressing me with their drive for new IP, whether its making thier own or publishing third party efforts eg cosmic walker and dynamic slash.  im sure we will also see established franchises, both recent ones such as f-zero/starfox and old ones like kid icarus and sin & Punishment 2

do you think we will see project HAMMER ever?
