Download mkv2vob. It's free. You can use the program to remux the MKV files into VOB files that the PS3 supports with no loss in quality.  It's very fast as well.

I have an external MyBook that I use to transcode MKV files to VOB files I have on my PC.  Works like a charm.  It's great for watching HD TV shows.
