I have Sonic and Sonic 3 on VC so yes and while I've never been a big Sonic fan it seems to me that a lot of the gameplay involved backtracting to other parts of the level you didn't/couldn't reach before, and a bit of thought at times in how to get there. This looks like one straight direct route. But I admit, I'm no Sonic expert. |
No, no , no!
Sonic was about as little back-tracking as possible. You run through the level fast, get to the end fast, fight the boss fast! You don't stop to explore every inch of the level on a single run-through or you run out of time and die. The goal in the original games was to get to the end before you ran out of time and get a lot of rings.
The reason Sonic games were fun to replay though is because there were usually half a dozen different ways to get through the level, secrets to find, mini-games/stages to run into, etc. Unlike a Mario game where you might stop and explore the entire level before going on, Sonic was made to be replayed over and over. ^_^
