I do think this guy sounds like an uninformed idiot, but to his defense-

Lots of these employees live in their own little isolated one store bubble and have no reference for the rest of the market. I would be willing to bet part of this is the individual stores focus.

For example, I bet the sales of PS3 are better at Best buy than at EB/Gamestop due to it's Blueray player. So a clerk there might tell you the PS3 sells the best and is the best choice. Go to a Toy R Us and I bet the clerk will tell you Wii sells the most. etc..

Finally, 360 gamers are probabley more vocal about games than Wii players. So for example, the average 360 player is more likely to have a conversation with the clerk about games they are buying/playing than the soccer mom buying a Wii game for her kids; which leads to the perception that the 360 is liked more/popular.
