Oddly enough, I don't agree with you on that one.
If SONY had to have sold the same as the Wii (let alone selling better) at around 6.84 million units, they would have to absorb an extra 4.45 million times the loss they are currently getting per console.
The 2nd hand software market is huge in Japan, so it would be ages before they could recoup the damage.
I think SONY is more than happy selling a stable ~8000 - ~10000 units a week.
