It was a great game, tight controls and what not, but it just doesn't live up to the standard set by the series, as Super Mario 2 was the bastard child of the 2D era, so will SMS be remembered as such.
Personally, I hated the water pack mechanic, so un-necessary and pointless, didn't add anything to the gameplay.
