| Gnizmo said: If they come out with a new inventive game that uses the camera then that will be a blue ocean move. I doubt they will make a move like that for a long time though. They seem to be pushing it as a third model of the DS, but they used that "third-pillar" line once before and we all know how that ended. If this does not become their hand held of choice then I guarantee you the cameras will get no real added function and just be gadgety extras. But my point has, and continues to be that the added functions on their own are not blue ocean as Malstrom claimed. Malstrom seems to think the DS lite was a blue ocean move as well which tells me he is just looking at the hardware capabilities. Neither of the two DS remakes are blue ocean on their own. |
But still will only be for people already interested in gaming. People not interested in gaming will not care if you can play games with a camera or not. This distant customers the Blue Ocean strategy Maltrom talks about are people not interested in gaming. How could you attract those people? By offering non gaming capabilites.
Because of the Blue Ocean characteristics the DS already has, it will be easier to create new gamers in these system, than in the iPod or PSP. Is Nintendo in the Red Ocean for doing this? We'll have to wait and see, but at least they are not competing in offering the best specs, but differentiate themselves with different experiences.
