I think you are reading too much into his statement. Tretton isn't saying that there currently is a shortage and he is excited that currently the PS3 is trending 30% higher than the 10 million shipment number for this fiscal year.
I don't think there will be a pricecut this year. In fact I would be surprised to see a cut before mid-2009. Sony is focused on profitability and they won't sacrifice it to increase market share.
