When this all plays out, the Xbox 360 will be selling slightly better than it would have been otherwise. But the price cut will not much of a long-term effect. That is what has been seen in Europe.

Remember, to most gamers, the version without the HD is not really worth getting and cannot do most of the high-end activities that Microsoft is pushing.

Plus, a lot of people are really in fear of the potential for economic downturn right now -- especially in the US. That could not only depress hardware sales ... but how many people will want to pay $60 for multiple games.

In the long run, I believe Microsoft will see attractive gains in the market as a result of the price cut. As mentioned by other posters, I am sure many consumers are saving for the holiday season.

I can personally say that I am resisting the urge to spend until the holiday season (mostly because of the economy and I know many retailers will be competing for consumer dollars more than ever).

I plan to purchase Fable 2 upon release, but many other purchases I am holding offf on until November (i.e., a new laptop, a Nintendo Wii, and gifts for others). It's no secret that consumers are spending conservatively. The 360 will be hard to ignore at this new price point come the holiday buying season.

This might be. If it occurs, I think it will be the $300 model with the 60M HD that drives the long-term increase rather than the Arcade model. That is the best buy in HD gaming right now. (If/when I get a 360 -- that will be the console I target because it has the best reliability).

I just wonder though, looking at the situation, how much of a difference it can make. The Xbox 360 does best in North America and a lot of units have already been sold there. Europe has had this price structure for a while with modest at best increases for the console. And Japan is a completely different market.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.
