The leash isn't there because the parent is negligent, it's because the parent is smart enough to realize that they are HUMAN. If you're going out in a large crowded area, it's very easy to get separated if you let go of them even for a second. Even if they aren't in any danger, it's still damn inconvenient to have to go looking for them for an hour, and just because they're parents doesn't mean the purpose of their hand is solely for holding onto their children.

If it was around the kid's neck, or if they tied the end of the leash to something and just left the kid there, yeah, that would be a problem, but quit finding random shit to bitch about just cause YOU think that it should FEEL degrading.
