I don't know man, I don't know much about the Blue Ocean and Disruption but I don't see Nintendo competing with the exact same market as Sony or Apple.  Remember on E3 where they said were testing the DS in airports or other stuff for cooking? None of the competitors do something similar to this. While the PSP and iPhone are very similar, the DS is different and therefore attracts different consumers.

The redesigns you talk I don't see them as Blue Ocean because they didn't offer something entirely different than it's predecessors, and only attracted current customers.

@ Vaza

I agree, piracy is strongly affecting DS software sales and something must be done.

The DS is different in that it does not offer much of anything outside of video games. Redesigning the DS to do more than just play video games (pictures, movies,  music, tc) is moving into the space occupied by the PSP and iPhone. It is not a blue ocean move at all. It is a direct attack against competitors.

If you don't see the redesigns I am talking about as blue ocean, then you can't possibly see the DS lite as a blue ocean move either. All it did was offer upgraded tech which is the exact same thing the GBA SP, and Micro offered (longer battery life, brighter screen, etc). To push my point further you can look at the PSP slim as well. Is the PSP suddenly going for a blue ocean strategy and trying to force Nintendo out of that space?
