That's pretty wishful thinking.  M$ is not going to throw money away by cutting the price to $149.99, especially with a bundle deal.  The sum total hardware isn't that cheap to produce, and it won't be by late next year either.

This baby won't be cheaper than $249.99 when it hits the shelves sometime late next year, I'm fairly certain.  I would expect a price cut to *preceed* the launch announcement, as well, to clear inventory of "the old" and make room for "the new".  MS may announce that they are working on a slimline soon, but they will not give an accurate estimate for it... they'll say "late 2009", and get no more specific than that.

OT: I also suspect that the Elite SKU is gonna be axed -- I'd be willing to wager that it already has been, actually, and that once the (probably 2 months worth) of warehouse stores of it are gone, the black 360 "Elite" is gone for a good long while -- until its replaced by a black slimline model (and just a color variation, not a bigger HDD) sometime late next year before the Holidays, but not until then (i.e. no Jasper version).

I just wanted to Sony fanboys to realize how much this could affect sales. It's basically a rethinking of the console, and it could go a long way to changing public opinion of the box, get people talking, and in general change the direction of this console war.

Remember the DS Phat? Well, it kinda sucked. The DS Lite blew people away. It was single handedly the reason I bought a DS. It vastly improved everything that was wrong with the DS. If Microsoft can do that(which is obviously the idea and the model this idea was based upon) then they could breath new life into this console.

It's far too early to be sure, but it's not too early to speculate. A slim reinvisioned 360, get people talking, 199 price point, PS3 still expensive, launch Halo 4, say hardware problems are fixed.

If it's true, these are the things we need to think about. It's a major, major, thing if it's true and it has vast implications beyond, "lol, it willz rrod toos." If you care about the Playstation 3 coming in second this generation, then if this is true, it should trouble you. Period.

One thing is for sure, this doesn't mean nothing in relation to the console wars. This is not something that wouldn't matter if it actually happened, as far as our ongoing sales discussion is involved. A slim PS3 would take Japan by storm. Recreating a console gives you the impression that you're getting a better value, all the bugs are ironed out, ect. Especially when you improve that consoles performance in the process.

If true, which it probably isn't, this would be a move aimed directly at beating Sony this gen in overall userbase. If you can't see that implication, then you just haven't thought it through at all.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.
