PAL Wii's can display in 852x576, but that's on 50Hz and without progressive scan.

The Wii does 16:9.... which works out exactly as 1024 X 576. (unless it only does widescreen in 480 modes?)

 

Nope, that's 16:9 alright. 4:3 576i is 640x576 (Wii games are mostly rendered 640x448 or 640x480).

 

but if you do this:

576/9  =  64

64*16 = 1024.

Therefore 16:9 aspect ratio for 576i is in fact 1024X576

while 4:3 should be 768X576.
