I think you have to remember that not all "hardcore creators" wants to continuesly invest time in making epic maps with storylines that run on for hours. A lot are going to create something that could be a fun little timewaster that you can play through in 30 minutes.
Others are going to make games that are fun to be four players in, just goofing around and others are going to create small casual levels, like the tetris level that was made recently.
I think there will be made good stuff for every taste out there, and it will shine through the sea of shittiness surrounding it, and people will have fun with it for a very long time.
