Spank me if I am solidly proven wrong, but, True Vegans are forced to take vitamins to make up for some things that can ONLY come from meat or animal products. Example, my nutrition class showed us cases where people who decide to be vegan without really looking into it almost go blind.

It seems pretty obvious to me that our bodies are designed to eat a healthy balance of both.

I'm not certain if you have to eat vitamins if you're a vegan but I do think most vegans choose to eat vitimins ...

I do know that you're correct in that a lot of people who decide to become vegans end up having serious health effects because they didn't know how to become a vegan. In ways their attempt at becomming a vegan is similar to "Super Size Me" as an approach to eating a healthy lifestyle that includes junk-food ...

I know you're short B12 if you're a vegan, so special care has to be taken for that (at the very least). If you're a vegetarian, and drink milk, then you're fine (with respect to B12). I'm sure there are some more vitamins that you are deficient.

That's it. B12 is what was unable to get from any non-animal product. A lack of this will cause you to go blind.
