What I remember from last holiday is that a few places did offer rebates (Microcenter was the biggest with $100), but most bundled 'free' games, controllers, and other accessories with the purchase of the system. While that may add value to the package, it still leaves the price of entry the same.
Numbers are like people. Torture them enough and you can get them to say anything you want.
