If you mean the weapons, what I said still stands. About the closest things we've had to the silliness of Aeon's sword is probably the Claim Solhais from Aria of Sorrow, and it was more like a gigantic indestructible meat cleaver made of light. Part of the problem I have with the art comes from its context more than the art itself - if this were a Kingdom Hearts game? Whoa, those are pretty cool designs! In a lot of contexts, they make a lot of sense. This looks like a really good-looking anime cast, even. Bunch of wizards and time magicians and so forth. I can dig that. There is a lot of very real artistic merit in these designs. It's the context that matters. Castlevania doesn't take place in the modern day, it doesn't take place in Japan, it doesn't take place in a strictly fantasy setting. It's rooted in European storytelling and its visual design tends to be informed by actual European historical trends, which is why Leon looked like this:
See what I mean? There's a lot of dissonance there. Leon has a very anime, bishounen flair to him, but most of his design is still grounded in reality or an approximation thereof. |
What you said only stands for you and the people who don't like the designs. As intelligent as you are, your opinion doesn't reign supreme over everybody else's. You do not determine nor decide what a game's style should adhere to in order to be something that isn't horrible. Don't try and shove your perspective down other people's throats as if your honest opinion was better than theirs. It's great that you have your own opinion about this, but you don't necessarily have to slam people down with it just because you, from what I have seen, appear to believe that your view on this is the only correct one.
