I already got Oblivion for my PS3, aswell as Enchanted Arms, Disgaie 3, and folklore. and i'll be getting Bioshock and Eternal Sonata for my PS3 aswell(Former 360 Exclusives), i met the great "Exclusives" such as Tales of vesperia i've been hearing about left and right. Is it good? because when it comes to JRPG's i've always been more of a Square Enix/Tri-ace/Level 5/Sega fanboy...the tales series seems odd to me.. lol.. imo.. |
I guess the question is up to personal preference. If you like ARPGs of the Kingdom Hearts/Star Ocean variety, then yes, Tales of Vesperia is incredible. It's right up there, if not excedes, every other Square Enix ARPG such as Kingdom Hearts and the ilk. If your not a fan of action-based RPGs, it's hard to say if it's that amazing, because the game demands combat strategy (in a similar way that Disagaea requires battle planning).
Otherwise, Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon are fantastic turn based RPGs. They are incredible in their own rights. Lost Odyssey stands as a great compliment to the older Final Fantasies (VII-X). Although marred by a few technical glitches, is one of the most beautiful JRPGs in recent memory. Blue Dragon is the ultimate fan service JRPG throwback to the mid 90's Squaresoft and Enix JRPGs. It's very reminicent of Dragon Quest games. The battle system is stellar, and Uematsu's soundtrack, if your a fan of his mid-90s work (Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger), is definately top-notch. The game oozes JRPG cliches - both the bad, and the awesome. Oh, and it's $19.99 in many areas.
The X360 WRPGs are also must-haves. Mass Effect is beyond a must-have if you like WRPGs. Although it is definately action-based, and shares many similarities with third person shooters, it's a phenominal game that has better storytelling (for a WRPG) than almost any given JRPG has had in years. It's the pinnacle of WRPG stories, and the last 2-3hrs of gameplay may never, EVER be reached in terms of "OMG" moments. Too Human, 2 Worlds, and the other WRPGs (sans you having Oblivion) are pretty good in their own, various, rights.
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
