Stereotypical anime design, got it.
Man, I want to pull a Seinfeld-esque "what is up with that sword" but it would be literally rhetorical. "Gee, I have a sword, the hilt and pommel of which look like a clock! I WONDER WHAT MY POWERS ARE ABOUT?" The fact that it looks effectively useless is somehow even more offensive - every time I think about this it gets even worse.
Functional weapons would be nice, Mr. Designer Man! If it looks like it couldn't cut something you are doing it wrong.
