I already sold it back though because I thought I was going to get trophies for the things I had already done.  :-p

Why would you think that?  All trophy patched games will require a new game save to earn the trophy.  This is the only way to prevent people from downloading game saves just to unlock the trophy.  Perhaps Kotaku could just publish one big negative PS3 article that details this fact and be done with it. 

 Edit: I guess Criterion promised they would be retroactive.  Don't flame me.
