It is a complete myth that people with different opinions have ever gotten along that well. Conflict has been a normal part of every political system since the dawn of modern civilization.
Its not that people can't be civil, its just that people feel pretty strongly about the things they believe in. I am only bothered by it when people make haphazard and incomplete arguments supporting what they claim to be correct.
