I don't really see any other ways this looks like a WRPG. Yes character creation is a typical WRPG thing, but it's also pretty typical in skateboarding games, but somehow I doubt WKC is going to be the next Tony Hawk.
People prefer one over the other based on how they like to be told a story. If they like lots of freedom and the ability to totally ignore the story and still have alot to do then they choose WRPG. If they want a more linear story than they choose JRPG. That's the basics of it, and until I see something that makes me think WKC will have the kind of sidequesting that a game such as Fable 2 or Fallout 3 will have than it is nothing like a WRPG.
