Not surprising at all. Mariokart was always a very strong franchise (as strong if not stronger then halo depending on what time period we're talking about). Put on top of that the huge success of the wii and its not surprising at all. The fact that halo 3 has held onto the top position for this long is impressive (as is its selling power, it really boosted the 360's sales when it came out). The reality is, this isn't a zero sum game. The fact that an FPS and a kart game on different console can both sell over 8 million copies (and probably over 10 million for both, obviously halo will get there much later) is amazing. This gen is great because everybody is doing relatively well.
