ok 4D is based time. Like the video on the site I posted. Think of yourself 1 minute ago and now. Thats what 4D is, its duration. Duration to think, duration in time, duration to execute. The CELL processor can accomplish branching A.I. better then the other two consoles. Branching the A.I. grants each opponent various options to accomplish it's task. In Resistance: Fall of Man for example, the enemy chimera are given 4 options; stand & attack, take cover; retreat and call for help; and attack under cover (forget the real ones watch the playb3yond video for them). Some enemies have less options then others but the basic ones have these options. So the idea of 4D in gaming is basically branched A.I. which allows what I said above, the ability to think, react, and execute an action in a curtain duration of time. Thats basically what good old Ken meant was that it can handle faster and more logical A.I. if you will. |
AI based on fuzzy logic routines is not 4D. Period. It doesn't matter how Sony tries to spin it. The "4th dimension" of time is inherent in everyday life, it's not suddenly their bottled lightning. What you described above is just an AI that can think a few steps ahead. People do that all the time. Machines already do that plenty. Deep Blue, the top-ranking computer chess player, thinks almost 20 moves ahead. He is not, in any way, "4D", and if he was claimed to be so, it would be a lie. You're also describing reaction time. That's also not "4D", that's just a faster processor doing the caluclations quicker, being able to come up with an answer fast enough to respond. It's simple processing power.
The fourth dimension is, as we've all agreed on, time (when referring to a set of only four dimensions -- going beyond that we hit theoretical dimensions that we cannot perceive). We cannot (currently) control time, we move forward at a rate of 1s/s (with appropriate variance for relativity). Until we create time machines, no machine is "4-dimensional".
