Semantics Starcraft. Eternal Sonata is linear by JRPG standards. Even the most linear of JRPG's usually have sidequests. Outside of the music sidequest there was nothing. Even Enchanted Arms had the huge optional dungeon, golem collecting, and online play. Blue Dragon had a tone of sidequests. Lost Odyssey had the hidden treasures sidequest, finding all the 1000 year dears, etc. Eternal Sonata purely point A to B with no deviation. Even the dungeon lay outs followed the trend. Final Fantasy X was one of the most linear JRPG's I've played and even it gave you the airship and a wealth of sidequests that you could complete before finishing the game. If the game has a great story and characters to back it up, I could saw past the linearity. It didn't however so I was left with a beautiful game with a nice battle system and not much else. Eternal Sonata is like talking to that beautiful girl you had a crush on and finding out her head is filled with more air than a set of tires. |
At the end of the day, I still banged the girl.
starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS
