Where's the old Square we used to love since the NES days anyway? Most of their games are either ports, rehash, remakes and spin offs. And if they try something new they make it into just like other stereotype anime thing like Final fantasy XIII.
@cord----> The only good final Fantasy OR GAME of Square for that matter on this generation was Final fantasy X. |
Really it all begain with Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.
This was the magnum opus of Hironobu Sakaguchi, the father of Final Fantasy and Miyamoto of RPGs.
hironobu sakaguchi
- Either Conceptualized, Directed or Worked on FF1-FF7, Super Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger and Parasite Eve
- Produced FF8-FF9 & Parasite Eve 2
- Directed Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within
- Began work on FF10
It was FF: The Spirits Within's utter and pathetic failure that forced Sakaguchi to step down from Square Soft as is customary in Japan with those who fail thier company (i.e. the creator of the PS3). Square was easily able to recover from their financial losses with the movie by selling the studio they had built to make it (and house all thier future projects that never would be), however when Sakaguchi stepped down their market value plummeted forcing them into near bankrupcy and much of Square-Soft's talent left. The crippled company was bought out by Enix in a merger thus becoming Square-Enix. However new practices and change in artistic vision led to more and more talent leaving the company.
Yoshitaka Amano (The Art of Final Fantasy) Yasumi Matsuno
- Did Concept Art for FF1-FF6 & FF9
- Left most likely in response to Hironobu’s stepping down or was phased out in favor of a new art direction.
Nobuo Uematsu (Music of Final Fantasy)
- Did Music for FF1-FF11
- It’s not know if he left or was phased out in favor of new musical composures.
- His latest work was the title theme of Nintendo's Super Smash Bros Brawl.
- Directed FFT, Ogre Tactics & Vagrant Story
- Began directing FF12 and Conceptualizing FF13 but left due to unknown reasons (possibly due to artistic conflict or politics within Square-Enix)
- Is believe to currently be working with Nintendo and Monolith on a new JRPG.
In the mean time Sakaguchi has recovered and has gathered up the bulk of the talent that fled Square Soft and Square-Enix over the years since his departure to form Mist Walker with the assistance of Microsoft. Currently it is believed that the ratio of talent at Square-Enix is 70% Enix and 30% Square Soft.
