When the economy is at its worst...generally the entertainment industry thrives. People watch more movies and play more games so they can dull the pain in their lives.

 

Not to mention videogames are one of the cheaper forms of entertainment. With games priced at 40$-60$ and offering 10-100 hours (depending on the game) it's way cheaper than other alternatives.
