It is indeed not innovative and I do not see it as the new standard in FPS games, I still consider Half Life series head and shoulders above CoD4.
I do, however, feel that the original Call of Duty helped set the standard and greatly raise the bar for WWII shooters and the first game in the series is the true masterpiece imo.
For me, Battlefield 2 is better than CoD4 as a modern shooter, I also enjoyed Vietcong almost as much as CoD4 in some areas and respects.
So, is it a good game? Yes, it is a very good game. Is it overrated? Yes, it really is imo, but then again; all games these days are.
