I think COD4 is highly rated because it has an intense single player campaign and one of the best multi-player campaigns around. Some may call it generic because it doesn't bring anything new to FPS, but I don't think a game needs to be innovative to be enjoyable. I have 160+ hours of mp, and I have completed the sp campaign on all difficulties. This game deserves all of the praise it has received.
