I don't think so, I've seen another trailer where they did use their weapons for stealth kills. I guess they just focused on a certain type of stealth kills for this particular trailer.

It's just one trailer. Tenchu also has a bunch of items to use, like poison drops, poisonned rice (my favorite since the first game), shuriken, smoke bombs, a hookshot like item to get on roofs, invisibily potions and many more.
