I think you probably have no good handle on the weapons. Once you realize the tricks to the wapons, (which you probably haven't) you'll enjoy it more.
The carbine is a one hit kill with headshots. Remember secondary fire is like using a rocket launcher.
The bullseye works great when you have tons of weak enemies. Secondary fire allows you to tag a strong enemy and just run away.
The auguer works great when you shoot bullets through walls. The shield is a safe of grace later on the game.
Just remember that and play it again.
