FFVII is overrated period. There are fanboys now that will swear that FFVII is the best game in the series and started playing the series with FFVII. The only thing I like about FFVII is that it sold well thanks to SCEA's heavy ad campaign. It is because of this that we actually get RPGs in the West. It also proves how stupid publishers are in general. If you don't advertise something, of course its not going to sell.
FFVI is overrated by the hardcore Final Fantasy fans but they are in the minority. The mainstream Final Fantasy fans tend to dismiss the game because its 2D, but in truth it trumps FFVII in everyway. If it weren't for the game tailing off a bit during the World of Ruin. FFVI would be the best in the series hands down. The World of Balance portion of FFVI is one of the best RPG experiences a player can have.
