Desroko and I are cool now.
You want a piece of US?
Seriously, though, I just got some new information...
Nintendo COULD be stockpiling, as I just learned from a GS employee that Wii shipments will show up at the EXACT same time as key game releases.
So I take it back: they could very well make the 18 mil number, since they apparently ARE stockpiling for games like MP3, SMG and SSBB (probably a lot for the last one).
EDIT: In fact, this same GS employee has been working retail for 7 years and from her observations, she points out that, when a product is hard to find, it stays hot. When you can get one on any store anywhere, demand cools off.
It's as though if you keep the supply just BARELY under the demand, more demand spawns from nowhere, and she cites examples of little kids badgering their parents, like saying, "Billy has a ____! I want one too!" simply because it's hard to get and having one is a status symbol.
So I take it ALL back: it looks like Nintendo could be fixing the market to ensure that the Wii hype remains high. In fact, remember how I said that Nintendo told us that Wiis would be hard to find this xmas as well? Yeah, keeping the hype high.
"I mean, c'mon, Viva Pinata, a game with massive marketing, didn't sell worth a damn to the "sophisticated" 360 audience, despite near-universal praise--is that a sign that 360 owners are a bunch of casual ignoramuses that can't get their heads around a 'gardening' sim? Of course not. So let's please stop trying to micro-analyze one game out of hundreds and using it as the poster child for why good, non-1st party, games can't sell on Wii. (Everyone frequenting this site knows this is nonsense, and yet some of you just can't let it go because it's the only scab you have left to pick at after all your other "Wii will phail1!!1" straw men arguments have been put to the torch.)" - exindguy on Boom Blocks
