I pretty much agree with you, although big hype can be good as well. I know I tuned in for the Smash Bros. Dojo every single weekday. Personally, I'd rather see a good game being underhyped, because you'd still have lots of fun with the game, than a game getting overhyped and then underdelivering.

Overdelivering > Underdelivering. In general, I don't think that new IPs should get too much hype or it might not end so well. Wasn't that what happened with the first Fable? I mean, a lot of people agree that it's a stellar game but it also gets a lot of crap for promises that weren't fulfilled.

Now, if a Zelda or GTA gets hyped, then that's a different story, because they are already big IPs and people know what to expect. Or rather, should know what to expect. I think most complaints about GTA are because people didn't seem to expect another GTA but something completely different. Most complaints I hear about GTA is that it's too similar to the other ones and doesn't innovate, but I wasn't expecting it to innovate or be different so I was more than pleased with it.

Well, those are my two cents anyway.
