In reality, online is better to keep simple and in just a few modes, since too many modes eventually leads to many modes that virtually nobody is playing. Listening to customers requests will only lead to death of the product, or atleast the death of a good idea.
Offline multiplayer, and if they manage to add the LAN mode, would be different cases.

 

I think that's the first time I ever beat anybody in anything involving "multiplayer".  I pwn.
